The Alabama Secretary of State offers a way for the general public to search the office for any type of entity including corporations, limited liability companies (LLC), limited partnerships (LP), limited liability partnerships (LLP), limited liability limited partnerships (LLLP), and professional associations. A query can be made by entity’s name, number, officer, registered agent, incorporator, month and year (the business was created), date, and registration by ID. Upon receiving the results of your search you will have the option of viewing detailed information about the entity you have selected.

Search By Name of Alabama Entity

Step 1- You must first navigate to Alabama’s Business Entity Search webpage. You are only required to enter the name of the entity you are searching for, however, you may choose to refine your search by entering the following information:

  • Entity type
  • Place of formation
  • City of principal address
  • Status

Step 2- After entering the name and whatever other information you wish to refine your search with, click the Search button to proceed. A list of matching results will appear on the next page showing, in addition to the name, the entity ID number (six digits in a xxx – xxx format), city of office, type, and its status with the Secretary. Click on the entity ID in the blue text to get the full information about the entity.

Step 3- On the next page the searcher will be able to view the following information regarding the entity:

  • ID number
  • Type
  • Principal address
  • Mailing address
  • Place of formation
  • Formation date
  • Qualify date
  • Registered agent name
  • Registered agent street address
  • Nature of business
  • Capital authorized
  • Capital paid in
  • Incorporator name, address, and mailing address
  • Any/all scanned documents

Search by Entity Number (6 Digits)

Step 1- Go to the Alabama Business Search webpage and enter the six-digit entity number in an xxx-xxx format. There is no option for refining your search when searching for an entity using this method. Once the information has been entered, click the Search button to proceed.

Step 2- On the following page you will be able to view the following information regarding the entity:

  • ID number
  • Type
  • Principal address
  • Mailing address
  • Place of formation
  • Formation date
  • Qualify date
  • Registered agent name
  • Registered agent street address
  • Nature of business
  • Capital authorized
  • Capital paid in
  • Incorporator name, address, and mailing address
  • Any/all scanned documents

Search By Agent | Officer | Incorporator

Step 1- Go to the Alabama Business Search webpage and enter the name of the individual that is connected to the business you would like to lookup in the last name, first name format. You may choose to refine your search by entering the following information:

  • Officer type
  • Place of formation

Step 2- On the next page you will be able to view all the entities the person is connected with in the state in addition to the business’s entity ID, entity name, officer | agent | incorporator (the person), and the position the person is in. Click on the entity ID in the blue text to get the full information about the entity.

Step 3- On the next page you will be able to view the following information regarding the entity:

  • ID number
  • Type
  • Principal address
  • Mailing address
  • Place of formation
  • Formation date
  • Qualify date
  • Registered agent name
  • Registered agent street address
  • Nature of business
  • Capital authorized
  • Capital paid in

Search By Month and Year

Step 1- Go to the Alabama Business Search webpage and begin your search of the business database by entering the month and year the entity was created at the Secretary of State. Click the Search button to complete your search.

Step 2- You will be redirected to a webpage that will show all the entities formed in the month and year queried in alphabetical order. Click on the entity ID in the blue text to get the full information about the entity.

Step 3- On the next page you will be able to view the following information regarding the entity:

  • ID number
  • Type
  • Principal address
  • Mailing address
  • Place of formation
  • Formation date
  • Qualify date
  • Registered agent name
  • Registered agent street address
  • Nature of business
  • Capital authorized
  • Capital paid in
  • Incorporator name, address and mailing address
  • Any/all scanned documents

Search By Date

Step 1- Go to the Alabama Business Search webpage and begin your search by entering the exact date that the entity was formed. You can refine your search by including the Place of Formation. Click the Search button to begin your search of the Alabama Secretary of State business database.

Step 2- The results will appear in alphabetical format. In this example the date chosen only had one (1) result. Click on the entity ID in the blue text to get the full information about the entity.

Step 3- On the next page you will be able to view the following information regarding the entity:

  • ID number
  • Type
  • Principal address
  • Mailing address
  • Place of formation

Search By Reservation

Step 1- Go to the Alabama Business Search webpage and enter the reservation number which can be found on the bottom-left corner of your reservation certificate (should have been a PDF document you received when creating). The number we will be using for this example was created on July 28, 2015, and expires after ninety (90) days. The number is RES696585.

Step 2- In this case the name was ‘Apple Pie LLC’ and you can see that after entering you will be able to view all the details of the name on this page (see below).
